Hurricane Sandy was the biggest hurricane in the U.S. since Katrina.  7.5 million people on the east coast lost power and 47 people died making it also the most devastating hurricane.  The hurricane wind hit the shore at 80 mph and had flood tides as high as 13 feet.  Most of New Jersey, lower Manhatten, some of Brooklyn and a lot of Long Island was flooded.  New York City schools, buses, subways and early voting stations were shut down.  Shelters popped up where ever there was room including many schools.  All political events-on the eastern seaboard-for the presedential race as well as the state senate were suspended until after the hurricane.

           There were way more deaths than anyone expected, most of the people evacuated or at least should have.  Most of the deaths came from falling trees.  People out on monday night could hear or see the trees falling, the aftermath was pretty incredible.  Officials estimate millions of dollars in damage repair and fixing the flooding which could cost a lot of money to those with out ensurance.  It's real tragic that people lives were lost and ruined because of this.  It almost makes me guilty because none of this affected me.  the only way I was effected was my wifi slowed down.  I feel like the president did very good job handling this, he was in contact with the governor of New Jersey and helped a lot.
