Over the summer I read a book called A Long Walk To Water Linda Sue Park.  It is a nonfiction book with two different stories.  They both took place in Sudan although one was in 2008 and the other was 1985-2008.  The one that was based in 2008 was about a girl who had to walk for four hours twice a day just to get water for here family.  The other story was about a boy who escapes the horrible war in Sudan and has to walk for days to get to a refugee camp that later forces him out to another refugee camp.  He learns english and by his late teens he is chosen to go to America with his new family.  When the boy, Salva Dut, is grown up he creates a charity foundation in which he builds water wells in Sudan around where he was born.  Eventually Salva happens to build a water well in the girls village and they meet in the book.

I think the story of Salva was amazing because of what he went through.  When he arrived at the first refugee camp his uncle had been shot in front of him and he had no idea where his family was.  He was then forced out of that refugee camp while getting shot at and swimming across a river with tons of crocodiles.  He then, at age 17 led a group of boys across Sudan which took a few years just to get to Kenya which had another refugee camp.  Finding that the refugee camp was to unequal he leads a group to another refugee camp which takes him a few more months.  There he find a worker that helps him learn english.  Soon he is getting picked to go to America with a new family that has adopted him.  It takes him so much courage, bravery and leadership skills to do that.  After all that he went through, he is still helping others.  Salva Dut is great man.
